The Quest? GWD system
To respond to the industry’s demand for more accurate wellbore placement, Gyrodata launched a new gyro-while-drilling (GWD) tool, QuestTM GWD. This ground-breaking technology enables operators to mitigate the costly risk of a collision throughout complex drilling projects. This is achieved by delivering high-quality, accurate measurements that help operators avoid drilling into existing adjacent wells. The QuestTM GWD tool also substantially reduces the ellipses of uncertainty in real-time, which improves wellbore placement as a result of greater precision and accuracy. This improved performance helps operators avoid lease lines, mitigates frac hits, and enhances ability to hit hydrocarbon-rich target zones.
Additionally, the solid-state sensor package is not affected by shock and vibration or magnetic interference. The Quest? GWD system is the second release that utilizes Gyrodata’s innovative SPEARTM solid-state technology. As a result, drillers can steer around existing steel casing and magnetic anomalies safely. The GWD tool also provides transparent, real-time quality control and gross error detection. With its impressive speed, the GWD tool reduces gyro surveying times considerably. These factors help operators achieve survey-reliability goals cost-effectively.
Quest GWD reduces the ellipse of uncertainty by 41% compared to competing MEMS GWD systems, while being two times faster to perform surveys.
